Beautifully restored to their former glory and opened as a luxury boutique hotel in 2006 Ibo Island Lodge is made up of 3 very impressive mansions with meter thick coral walls, high ceilings and lush mature gardens. The lodge is set overlooking the bay at Ibo and sunset and a flotilla of traditional dhows that sail out to sea on each high tide.

14 beautifully simple, unique and elegant rooms with air con and fans offer indigenous solid teak and mahogany furniture, handcrafted by the people of Ibo. Guests spend time on the front or back verandas overlooking the bay or the tropical gardens. Rooms feature air conditioning, ceiling fan, locally crafted king-size 4 poster beds or twin beds, silk throws, hand crafted tall wardrobes, antique style chest and all have ensuite bathrooms with twin basins, and marble showers.

Ibo’s best kept secret is the sand spit beach reached via a short boat trip from the lodge. For guests in search of a pristine beach experience this is it! Grilled seafood served under a Bedouin tent and afterwards snorkel off into cool blue water, to explore delicate corals and hundreds of fish.

Other popular inclusive activities include guided walks out into Ibo’s beautiful stone town that bring the history and legends alive. Guests can also take to the water to discover more of the Quirimbas National Park in graceful sailing and motorized dhows or kayak through one of the largest mangrove forests in Africa where bird life is abundant.

Guests will access Ibo Island Lodge via Pemba International Airport in Mozambique.

Pemba can be accessed from South Africa with daily flights from Johannesburg on SA Airlink and LAM.  Once you have collected your baggage you will be met by the Ibo Island lodge representative and transferred to the transfer company for your light air transfer.

Private charter flights to Ibo Island are available on request at the time of booking Ibo Island Lodge, but are more expensive.
